Don't you just love when you come across Youtube sensations, Keith Forest is on to something with his "Studio Cover Series". I've honestly fell more in love with Rihanna's "Love on the Brain" after watching Keith's cover, which is featured down below.
Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Keith's childhood wasn't so pleasant and a bit painful he states. A lot of moving in different places such as Detroit & Pontiac in Michigan but mostly the Orlando, FL- Pine Hills area. A lot of family drama and living in high crime areas resulted in me being very mature as a child. My nature was to be all the light that was missing from everything around me- I had no clue I was being a "good kid" but I was. Keith was always into singing, but never really listened to himself it wasn't till joining his high school's gospel choir, where that experience helped him realize his full potential as a artist. I was producing beats for fun for a short time before that. Also at that time I was heavily on Youtube watching songwriters and got inspired to teach myself piano and guitar. Pretty soon I was writing, composing and singing full songs out of raw, uncontrollable desire.
Who are some of your favorite artists? What about them do you love?
So many favorite artists but some notable ones are Imogen Heap, she's an amazing producer, sound engineer and I love a lot of her music like "hide and seek." Frank Ocean, his arrangements and song flows are so original and his music paints vivid feelings from the way he executes lyrics. Lauryn Hill, her soulful voice, lyrics about love, & wise messages. I love Beyonce, her work ethic and live performances are other worldly. I'm big on listening to tons of singers in R&B.
What is your new project going to be about? Do you do your own mixing and mastering?
My new project "Sonically" is going to be focused on R&B- its atmospheric, 808 and bass heavy, some 90's inspired. My vocals will be aimed to please the singing community in skill, but they will follow my lyrics lead. My stories are about visions of success and redeeming divine purpose, guarded love, and erotic topics. So far it's all about putting out a project that says this guy can produce, sing and write amazing music that people can and want to consume. I'm currently looking for a poetic rapper and another singer to potentially have on my project. I do my own mixing and mastering but I am open and am collaborating with some producers now. I do a lot of songwriting.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
By 5 years, I goal to have an amazing fan base, A-list clients for top line songwriting, be on or have done a world tour, critically acclaimed visuals and music, involved in film or television, at the beginning of my business investments to support the perpetuation of veganism and have bought several family members houses on lakes and cars lol. I've got a lot of work to do LOL.
What instruments do you play? I play the piano, guitar and got pretty decent on the drums but I perform as a vocalist on stage.
